1. About these Terms

These Terms form an agreement between you and Simply Scripture (“we”, “us”, “our”). They apply to everyone who uses the App or the Site. We may update these Terms from time to time, as described in section 13.

2. The App and your licence to use it

Simply Scripture is a distraction-free Bible reading app for iOS. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the App on Apple devices that you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, in line with these Terms and with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

3. Eligibility and age

The App is suitable for users of all ages. If you are under the age at which you can form a binding contract in your country, you may use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App or the Site;
• reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except where this restriction is prohibited by law;
• use the App or the Site in any unlawful way or for any unlawful purpose; or
• interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App, the Site, or their underlying systems.

5. Optional accounts and sync

A Simply Scripture account is not required for reading or personal Scripture tools. If you choose to create or connect an account, you agree to provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in method secure, and notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.

Simply Scripture is local-first. Supported personal records may sync through your private iCloud database before sign-in and after sign-out when iCloud is available. If you approve the first-account merge, your current local library can also sync through our Supabase-backed service, which becomes the primary sync path while you are signed in. Account sync is protected in transit and by authenticated access controls, but it is not end-to-end encrypted from the service operator.

Sync is provided on a best-efforts basis and may be delayed or unavailable. The local copy remains the app’s working copy, but you are responsible for maintaining any additional backups you consider necessary. Switching accounts, signing out, deleting an account, deleting the App, and changing iCloud settings have different effects, as described in section 14 and the Privacy Policy.

6. Bible text, study content, and third-party rights

Bible translations, study resources, and related content may be owned by their respective publishers, authors, or other rights holders, or made available under applicable public-domain terms. Simply Scripture makes each edition available only under the permissions, licences, and notices that apply to that edition. Attribution and use restrictions displayed in the App or with an edition form part of these Terms.

You may read and quote content for personal, non-commercial use only to the extent allowed by applicable law and the notice for that edition. You may not reproduce, redistribute, remove attribution from, or commercially exploit Bible or study content beyond the rights granted by the relevant rights holder. These Terms do not make any claim that a particular translation is licensed or available unless it is actually offered in the App with its applicable notice.

7. Privacy, diagnostics, analytics, and Session Replay

Our Privacy Policy explains how the App and Site handle information and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Sentry crash and performance diagnostics, Amplitude usage analytics, and Session Replay are separate optional choices. Each stays off unless you explicitly enable it; turning crash diagnostics on takes effect on the next app launch, turning them off takes effect immediately, and Replay also requires analytics to be enabled. Using the App does not by itself give consent to any of these optional features.

You can change these choices in Privacy & Analytics settings. Disabling or declining optional analytics or Replay does not restrict the core reading and personal Scripture tools. Disabling collection stops future telemetry from that installation but does not automatically delete records already received; the Privacy Policy explains the current request and deletion limitations.

8. Our intellectual property

The Simply Scripture name, logo, design, and the App and Site software (excluding the third-party content described in section 6) are owned by us and are protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you, except for the limited licence to use the App set out in section 2.

9. Availability and changes to the App

The App is provided free of charge. We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue the App, an account or sync service, a particular Bible edition, or another feature where reasonably necessary. We do not guarantee that the App, Site, hosted content, or sync will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

10. Price

Simply Scripture is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or advertisements. If this changes, any paid feature will be clearly described and optional before purchase. Availability of a Bible edition remains subject to its applicable rights and distribution terms.

11. Disclaimers

The App and the Site are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the App or the Site will meet your requirements or that every defect, sync conflict, or content error will be corrected. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the App or the Site, including loss caused by an unavailable sync service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “last updated” date above and give any additional notice required by law. Your continued use of the App or the Site after updated Terms take effect means you accept them; where the law requires a separate choice, we will ask for it.

14. Stopping use, account deletion, and separate data copies

You may stop using the App at any time. Deleting the App removes its local data from that device but does not necessarily delete a Simply Scripture account, the account-held library, private iCloud records, device backups, or telemetry already received. Signing out preserves the local library and the account-held copy, and private iCloud sync may resume when available.

To delete an optional Simply Scripture account and its active service-held library, use the account-deletion control in the App. Account deletion does not automatically erase separate on-device or private iCloud copies; use the App and Apple’s iCloud controls to remove those copies. Limited account records may remain temporarily where required for security, law, or disaster recovery. Telemetry access and deletion requests are handled as described in the Privacy Policy, and the pseudonymous design may prevent us from locating one installation’s records reliably.

We may suspend or end access to an account service if you materially breach these Terms or where necessary to protect the service, subject to applicable law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including sections 6, 8, 11, 12, and 15 — will continue to apply.

15. Governing law

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, although if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction.
